"And she loved a little boy very very much....even more than she loved herself"
The Giving Tree is Robin's favorite book - we made sure to incorporate it into their family session:
We stayed inside the house for most of the session - but we wanted to take advantage of the amazing evening light on this warm springy February VA day. It was absolutely stunning...
Robin had seen an image with the wedding bands on the baby's feet somewhere and wanted to have one like it - she told me later that it came out so much better than she had ever imagined - that truly is the most flattering compliment for me as the artist as I strive to exceed my clients' expectations where I can!
It was an incredible session - so full of joy and fun! This family is truly blessed with 3 beautiful children inside and out. I wish them the most amazing time as they get used to the life of a big family <3

5am - Alarm ringing...snoooooze!!!! Alarm again...ok I have to get up now...oh look at that, my kids are up too before I can even hit the shower - lovely!
Do you find yourself having one of those mornings more than you want? For me this happens about 4 out of 5 times per week. So things just have to either get kicked of my list of things to get done OR I have to do them extra efficient and extra quick (which is usually the route I aim for). So something that is really just a luxury to me has been getting my hair straightened and slapping some make up in my face! Yeah, even one or the other is considered a SUCCESS in this house!
Soooo in my quest of efficiency I have been able to narrow my pretty extensive make up bag (who am I kidding???) down to my 3 absolute favorite and MUST HAVE items if you want to get your face to look 'weekday-take-kids-to-school-and-not-look-like-one-of-those-people-at-walmart-while-doing-it' ;)
Here they are:
My new favorite base - the NARS Tinted Moisturizer with SPF 20 (I am a huge fan of SPF in any foundation or day moisturizer) - this has been so amazing for me that I rarely touch my 'real' foundation anymore - even on days where I have more time ;)
Seriously - check it out - you will LOVE it!
I have used this mascara for almost 10 years now and it still is my fave! It never disappoints and they have improved it over the years. No other mascara separates the lashes as well and easily and still gets a real impactful amount of color on there. AMAZING!!
Who would have thought that my favorite lipgloss comes from Bath and Body Works and is only around $7 - not me ;) But I LOVE this one (and all the others out of the same series, they have tinted ones that are just as great too). It is super smooth and thick, but won't be sticky every. I apply it all day long - have one in each purse, one in the car and one in my kitchen ;) The best part: it tastes like peppermint and has a cooling effect - LOVE!
Alright, moms, it's time to take about 5 minutes each morning and get pretty ;) Hope this helped - as always: Comment with your faves and share this if you enjoyed it! (I make it easy - just use the share button below)
So I have always disliked anything that has mineral oil in it...it must come from the way I grew up and we were always used to buying lotions that did not contain mineral oil in any form.
I DO however need a thick vaseline-like lotion for my lips to keep sane and also for my oldest daughter's incredibly rough hands (especially during the winter months). What has helped us with dry skin has been our humidifier - such a game changer for dry and irritated skin. But that was not enough - her hands literally crack under these cold, dry weather conditions.
So I wanted to have an alternative to regular vaseline and I wanted to combine it with Frankincense and Lavender because those oils are known to soothe dry skin and make it feel much better. So here is what I came up with in my kitchen :) (PS the cute little containers I found at Target in the pharmacy section, right where you can buy all the travel sized items)
Here is what I came up with in my kitchen to get a healthy alternative to regular vaseline
- Coconut oil
- Vitamin E oil (a few squirts only)
- Shea butter (I only used because I had some left, but I don't find it necessary)
- Essential Oils of your choice (for best results, all of my recipes and recommendations always contain doTERRA essential oils which are Certified Pure Therapeutic Grade (CTPG) oils and are proven to work amazingly, I don't use any other oils and don't guarantee that these things work with other brands)
I used Lavender, Frankincense and Deep Blue in my batch (find out what Deep Blue is for here, it's amazing)
Just the fact that the ingredient list is so short makes me feel crazy awesome about putting this on my kids' skin!!
Making this could not be easier: Melt the oils together in a saucepan, let cool for a few minutes, pour into little or big containers (one for each different essential oil you chose to use) and add about 10 drops essential oil. Done!
To help the vaseline cool down a little faster you can put them in your refrigerator but not much longer than 45 minutes....let them stand in room temperature for a little while before using them, because if they are too cold, they will be hard to get out and hard to spread.
I labeled each container with the essential oil I added for quick reference.
Quick extra tip: Use the lavender vaseline on your baby's skin when they have diaper rash...it will be gone by the next diaper change!!
